These 3 supplements are dangerous

Warning, overdose: These 3 dietary supplements are dangerous

1. Vitamin E

Vitamin E is an important vitamin for health, but it should not be overdosed. An overdose of vitamin E can lead to a number of health problems, including Gastrointestinal problems and one increased risk of bleeding. The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) has set a maximum tolerable daily dose of 300 mg. However, the consumer advice center warns that the risk of a hemorrhagic stroke (cerebral hemorrhage) can be increased at doses of 130 to approx. 200 mg per day. Therefore, vitamin E should only be taken in consultation with a doctor.

2. Vitamin B12

Vitamin B12 is an important vitamin for health, but it is important to consume it in moderation. An overdose of vitamin B12 can lead to serious side effects, including one increased risk of lung cancer. Liquid vitamin B12 supplements are particularly dangerous because they are easy to overdose on. The Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR) warns that an overdose is likely if you take more than 25 micrograms of vitamin B12 daily via dietary supplements.

3. Calcium

Calcium is an important mineral for bone health. But too much calcium can also be dangerous. This is especially true when taking dietary supplements. The Lübeck professor of pharmaceutical nutrition Martin Smollich warns in an interview with the knowledge portal Spektrum: “From a daily dose of more than 1,500 milligrams of calcium, the risk for you demonstrably increases Heart attack.” This is because too much calcium can calcify the vessels. This disrupts blood flow to the heart and increases the risk of a heart attack.
