“There is no such thing as zero risk”, says Willy Schraen, boss of hunters

“There is no such thing as zero risk, that’s how it is” … Willy schraen, president of the
National Federation of Hunters, estimated Monday that “zero risk does not exist”, after the
two “dramatic” hunting accidents occurred last week in France, while presenting his “apologies”.

“Obviously, these dramatic accidents are very bad, I apologize”, he said in an interview with South Radio, evoking a “small law of series”.

“I just hope it’s the hunter’s ball”

“There are very few accidents of this kind in a year, they are very rare” and especially when the victims are “non-hunters”, added the president of the Federation.

Regarding the accident that occurred on Saturday near Rennes, where a motorist was seriously injured by a hunter – he is currently in hospital between life and death – Willy Schraen expressed his surprise on the trajectory of the bullet which “ricocheted”, “crossed hedges” and “was not found”.

“I just hope it’s the hunter’s ball,” he said.

Another hunting accident occurred last week: a walker was injured by a hunter’s shot as he was walked on a path, Thursday in Haute-Savoie.

The number of accidents in France has fallen a lot, assured Willy Schraen: “In twenty years, we have divided by four all accidents, whether fatal or bodily”, he said.

Jadot’s proposals qualified as “stupid”

Willy Schraen also qualified as “stupid” the proposals made on Friday by the presidential candidate EELV, Yannick Jadot, to ban hunting during weekends and school holidays. “If you want to ban something, let them just ban hunting, because people who hunt are people who work.”

Asked about Emmanuel Macron, the president of the Federation of Hunters said: “Macron has done things for hunting that no president had done until now”, such as halving the amount of the price of the permit of hunting. “We have rather a good record with Macron, rather a bad record with his Minister of Ecology” Barbara Pompili, he added.
