Theatertreffen: These are the ten remarkable productions

From the “Lord of the Rings” play to the Shakespeare classic: a jury has invited ten productions for the theater meeting. Here is the 10 selection of the big stage festival for Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

The Berlin Schaubühne has been invited to the Theatertreffen, the summit meeting of German-speaking theaters, with two productions. On Friday, a jury named the play “Bucket List” by Yael Ronen and Shlomi Shaban and the acting solo “The Silence” by Falk Richter among the ten remarkable productions.

Also included is a new production of the Shakespeare classic “Macbeth” at the Schauspielhaus Bochum and the walk-in production “Giant in Middle-earth” at the Schauspielhaus Zurich, which is based on Tolkien’s fantasy work “The Lord of the Rings”.

“This selection really shows the richness of what is happening on stage in German-speaking countries,” said Nora Hertlein-Hull, who has been at the helm of the Theatertreffen in Berlin since the beginning of the year. She would like to link the formats of the large stage festival more closely, as she said on Friday. “I see great potential in linking the individual platforms, which all serve to promote young talent in one way or another.”

In addition to the 10-person selection, the theater meeting consists of various formats, such as the International Forum for Global Exchange or a platform for cultural journalists. The next edition is scheduled to begin on May 2nd.
