Musical with rebellion: “Ku’damm 59” celebrates its premiere
The musical sequel “Ku’damm 59” started in Berlin with prominent guests. Strong voices and a simple stage design underlined the theme of the story – and caused a standing ovation.
The approximately three-hour piece was developed by author Annette Hess and the songwriter team Ulf Leo Sommer and Peter Plate, known for Rosenstolz. They relied on many young actors and a simple stage design. The four main actresses shone even more with their strong voices – especially in their solos. This is how they underlined their rebellious, self-confident characters.
Before “Ku’damm 59” came “Ku’damm 56”
“Ku’damm 59” is the sequel to the musical “Ku’damm 56”, which attracted around 300,000 visitors from Berlin and Brandenburg to the Berlin theater. Numerous prominent guests also attended the premiere.
Berlin’s deputy mayor and senator for economic affairs, Franziska Giffey, also came to the premiere and emphasized the importance of history, which still applies today. “The topics are still very relevant and ultimately the fight for freedom, for democracy, for equality, against discrimination – these are very, very current topics,” said the SPD politician before the performance began.
Regular performances can be attended from Tuesday, May 7th. The play is performed every Tuesday and Friday, and there are two performances every day on weekends.
