The world record for the largest sauerkraut broken!

The anomaly is repaired. The record for the largest sauerkraut in the world is no longer Lyon… but Alsatian! It was originally by discovering this regional oddity on the banks of the Rhône and Saône that Jean-Michel Kruth embarked on the adventure. The director of “La Maison Adam, Les Charcutiers d’Alsace” won his bet on Saturday in Haguenau (Bas-Rhin).

By preparing, together with volunteers, 2,363.46 kg of the famous dish, they established the new benchmark. “And all the portions were sold before noon,” savors the initiator, very proud of the team that accompanied him. In total, more than a ton of cabbage, 200 kg of potatoes, 400 of meat and 5,000 knacks were needed for the preparation. All these products had been offered by local producers.

Even better, all of the proceeds from this gigantic sauerkraut were donated to the “La Fabrique en Rose” association, which helps women with breast cancer. That is about 3,100 portions at three euros each. “Some were even more generous. The lady of the association was so happy…”, appreciates Jean-Michel Kruth, who first promises to take advantage before embarking on a possible improvement of the record. “We also have to check that the saucepan, specially created for the event, is still in good condition! “, he concludes.
