After the sequel to “The Wizards of Waverly Place” was announced, the series stars are now announcing the good news on Instagram.
Selena Gomez (31) and her “Wizards of Waverly Place” co-stars are reunited. In an Instagram photo, the actress poses for the camera with her colleagues David Henrie (34), Maria Canals-Barrera (57) and David DeLuise (52). “The Russos are coming back,” says Henrie and DeLuise’s post with a heart emoji – an allusion to the family’s series name. Behind it they put the hashtag “Wizards Of Waverly Place” and link the podcast to the series. Jake T. Austin (29), who played Max Russo, the youngest child of the magician family, is not shown in the photo.
It was announced on January 18th that the wizard series, which ran on Disney Channel from 2007 to 2012, would be returning. As Deadline reported, the sequel will be co-produced by leading actors Selena Gomez and David Henrie. While the singer will appear in a guest role, her colleague will return to his series character Justin Russo. Disney Channel confirmed the sequel on his Instagram account and shared a photo of the pilot script by Jed Elinoff and Scott Thomas, which features a wand with the series name on it.
“Get ready for the Russos to become part of your family again, but we’ve grown! 2024, the year is coming back,” series star David Henrie commented on the post. Although the exact start of the series is not yet known, the 34-year-old reveals that fans can expect it this year.
New cast and story announced
In addition to Henrie, new actors Janice LeAnn Brown, Alkaio Thiele (13) and Mimi Gianopulos (34) will be seen on Disney Channel.
As People reports, the sequel to the Emmy-winning series will revolve around a mysterious incident at the magic school WizTech. Justin Russo, now an adult, has left his magical powers behind to lead a normal life with his wife and two sons. When a powerful young wizard suddenly shows up on his doorstep, Justin must confront his past to secure the future of the wizarding world…
