“The Walking Dead” is far from dead. Numerous spin-offs are in the starting blocks. An overview of everything that is to come.

The epic zombie series that began on Halloween 2010 “The Walking Dead” ended in November last year after an incredible 177 episodes. The conclusion of the parent series did not mean the end of the entire “The Walking Dead” franchise. An overview of all currently running and upcoming spin-offs of the defining zombie series of the 2010s Years.

“Fear the Walking Dead” ends with season eight

The situation is relatively simple with the first “The Walking Dead” spin-off “Fear the Walking Dead,” which launched in 2015. It’s over after season eight. The latest edition is currently flickering across the screens of the US channel AMC and is available in Germany on Amazon Prime Video. The focus of the final episodes is the character Madison Clark, played by Kim Dickens (58).

Will the spin-off “Fear the Walking Dead” continue with its own offshoot after the series ends? No. Executive producer Michael E. Satrazemis blamed this speculation in conversation with “Entertainment Weekly” a latch. “Fear the Walking Dead” is said to have a “complete ending”.

“The Walking Dead: Dead City”: The Maggie and Negan spin-off is getting a second season

The first spin-off of “The Walking Dead” can already be seen in Germany on Magenta TV, in which the main characters of the series experience further adventures. In “The Walking Dead: Dead City” the former arch-enemies Maggie (Lauren Cohan, 41) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan, 57) end up in New York. In a Manhattan overrun by zombies, they want to save Maggie’s son and come across powerful new adversaries.

“The Walking Dead: Dead City” has been renewed by AMC for a second season in July 2023. However, due to the actors’ strike currently underway in the USA, filming of the new episodes has not yet begun. In Germany, “Dead City” was launched on October 13th as a subscription flat rate on Magenta TV.

The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon continues as The Book of Carol

On December 8th, the highly anticipated spin-off about fan favorite Norman Reedus (54) will also be released in Germany on Magenta TV. In the series “The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon”, named after Reedus’ iconic “Walking Dead” character, the formidable fighter ends up in France, where Daryl has to deal with even more dangerous zombies and at the same time the origin of the devastating undead apocalypse trying to get to the bottom.

“The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon” was renewed for a second season at Comic-Con in San Diego. For this, Daryl’s congenial partner Carol (Melissa McBride, 58) returns to the zombie universe. Season two is therefore subtitled “The Book of Carol”. The sequel is currently being made in Europe thanks to an exemption from the acting union SAG-AFTRA, so new episodes can probably be expected over the next year.

“The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live”

Magenta TV has also secured the rights for Germany for the third spin-off about main characters from the parent series “The Walking Dead”: “The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live” is about the fan favorite Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln, 50) and Michonne (Danai Gurira, 45).

As is well known, series star Andrew Lincoln was eliminated from “The Walking Dead” in the ninth season. His character, former police officer Rick Grimes, was considered lost within the world of the series. But his partner Michonne went looking for him, which is why actress Danai Gurira also left the zombie series in the tenth season.

Originally announced as a series of films, Rick and Michonne are now getting their own miniseries, which will also star Pollyanna McIntosh (44) as the well-known character Jadis and Terry O’Quinn (“Lost”, 71) as the new villain Beale.

“The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live” is scheduled to start in the USA on AMC in February 2024. In Germany, the series should soon be shown on Magenta TV.

“Tales of the Walking Dead” and “More Tales From the Walking Dead Universe”

The anthology series “Tales of the Walking Dead” was positively received in summer 2022, in which new, independent stories from the zombie apocalypse were told – with completely new but also well-known characters. So far, the US channel AMC has not yet commented on the status of “Tales of the Walking Dead”. The series is therefore neither canceled nor extended.

At the same time, however, AMC has announced a new series of six short films called “More Tales From the Walking Dead Universe”, which – right down to the series title – has a lot of similarities to “Tales of the Walking Dead”. There is currently no start date for “More Tales From the Walking Dead Universe”.
