“Balenciaga will definitely be turning in his grave,” wrote a comment on Instagram under a photo of the new Balenciaga autumn winter collection. This refers to the label’s founder, Cristóbal Balenciaga, who died in 1972. In the campaign mentioned, model Bella Hadid looks over her bare shoulder, a black thong peeks out of low-cut pants. The only scandal is that the bag that the campaign image was supposed to be about received less attention than Hadid’s underwear. A “visible thong”, a visible thong that has been present again for a few seasons on catwalks, red carpets, Instagram and Tiktok, no longer triggers real outrage.
