The very good surprises of the Utopia opening parade

Let’s go for six months of Utopia. Saturday was launched the Utopia festivities in Lille. As is the tradition at each of the major cultural events of Lille 3000, an opening parade marked the start of the event. 20 minutes picked up some good surprises.

The party lasted a large part of the day and night of Saturday, between the static shows and happenings, the parade and the closing fireworks. While there were some things that weren’t very original and others that were a bit cheesy, we were still pleasantly surprised overall, starting with the organization.

No notable incident to report

According to the emergency services, no less than 300,000 people attended the Utopia festivities. So, compared to the eleven hospitalizations for minor injuries, the results are not bad. In terms of public security, the prefecture only counted eight arrests for facts that have not been specified.

Still on the organizational side, it had been decided not to put up barriers along the route followed by the parade. A daring bet but ultimately a winner. In terms of usability, nothing to do with a parked public. We saw the artists really communicate with the spectators, and particularly with the children.

On the floats, the marching bands, the dances, we are not going to judge. All we can say is that the Lille residents who volunteered to participate seemed to enjoy their lives. On the other hand, what was announced as a simple “fireworks” amazed the public. Because in addition to the banal rockets, however beautiful they may be, we were able to witness a real luminous aerial ballet danced by dozens of drones. The devices chained the figures to end with a breathtaking dove of peace. Great art, unpublished in Lille.
