The treasurer of a works council sentenced for embezzling more than 400,000 euros

He had everyone’s confidence and called himself “Mr. CE”. Thursday in Laval (Mayenne), a union representative, who was also treasurer of a works council, was sentenced to two years in prison, including 18 months suspended, for breach of trust and money laundering, reports the newspaper West France. For five years, this 53-year-old man managed to embezzle more than 400,000 euros. He had finally denounced himself, in 2020.

Initially, the employee had acted to try to get out of a situation of over-indebtedness before it became “sick”, in his words. The defendant had found a discreet technique: he suggested that “the annual allocation allocated to the works council by the parent company was 130,000 euros, while in reality it was 190,000 euros”, specifies West France.

Tried for complicity, his wife was sentenced by the court to six months in prison. The couple will have to repay the balance of the embezzled funds.
