The tram tunnel accidentally pierced by works

Line 2 of the Nice tramway is only partially operating this Friday afternoon since 2:30 p.m. In question, a hole drilled in one of the tunnels where the trains circulate brought traffic to a complete halt between Jean-Médecin, in the city center, and the port. The metropolis mentions in a press release “an incident linked to drilling carried out by a third party near the Durandy station”.

“A hole of 6.6 cm in diameter” clearly appeared on the vault, precisely 20 minutes deputy mayor Gaël Nofri, president of the Lignes d’Azur management company. And private works are involved. The elected official targets “the surveys currently carried out in search of responsibilities by a co-ownership of Boulevard Dubouchage”. He mentions that of number 27 in this case, which notably houses the Theater of Photography and Image, where work is underway to find out if the settlements and cracks observed on the building in 2016 are indeed due… to digging of the tram tunnel.

In any case, an expert intervened in the tunnel and refilling work was launched. No date for total resumption of traffic can be assured at the moment, according to Gaël Nofri, who still hopes for a “rapid” restart. The Durandy, Garibaldi and Port Lympia stops will not be served at least until the end of the service this Friday evening. Line 2 operates “in a carousel” between Jean-Médecin and Cadam/Aéroport stations.
