the teenager who disappeared during the storm in Beauvais found drowned

The body of the 17-year-old teenager who disappeared during a violent storm in Beauvais, in the Oise, was found on Wednesday, announced the prosecution. It had fallen, during the night from Monday to Tuesday, in the Thérain river, swollen by “torrential” rains.

The body was discovered “about fifty meters from the drop point” of the high school student, according to the prosecutor, Carole Tharot, while the search operations, interrupted Tuesday around 7 pm, had resumed this Wednesday morning.

His friends tried to fish him out in vain

The high school student would have fallen “suddenly” in the river, a tributary of the Oise crossing the city, without having been able to realize that he was no longer on the roadway because of the water level, explained Tuesday the prosecutor.

Living in Hermes, near Beauvais, the teenager had passed his baccalaureate oral exam on Monday morning. He had gone out “obviously on the occasion of the Music Festival”, joining, according to video surveillance images, a group of young people in a courtyard below the Thérain, “where they had their feet in the water from 11 pm” .

The images from another camera “show, at 11:13 pm, five people running, the young man, in front of the group, suddenly falling”. Two young men immediately got into the water to try to rescue the victim, to no avail.
