“The Synagogue”: Graphic Novel by Joann Sfar – Culture

It’s the 1980s in Nice. After a series of synagogue bombings, members of the Jewish community organized a security guard, including 17-year-old Joann. Not because he expects an assassination attempt – he wants to avoid the church service, which he has found boring since his childhood. “Please don’t stand in front of the synagogue!” he instructs everyone who leaves or walks past the synagogue. But he gets it – spoiler alert! – ‘Never dealing with a terrorist, but with a resolute old Jewish lady: “You want to tell the Jews where they can go?”
