Anyone who reads books by Franz Alt must believe. Or let yourself be persuaded to believe. The 83-year-old is a convinced Christian, but also accepts other teachings. In his new book “The Planet Is Destroyed. What We Must Do Now”, Alt regularly invokes Jesus Christ, the Dalai Lama, Mahatma Gandhi and very often the authors of the Club of Rome, who 50 years ago referred to the ” “Limits to Growth”. Critics of the former ARD journalist and veteran of the German environmental movement will puff out their cheeks at the title of the book and shout “Oh my gosh, another old man”. Others may find hope and encouragement in his approach.
