The strike that disrupted the start of the school year should be renewed

In a number of schools in Lille, the start of the school year was somewhat chaotic this Thursday, due to a mobilization of the CFDT for the ATSEM, the animators, the agents of the crèches and the staff of the school canteens. The city denounces a “difficulty for families” while the union advances “common sense” demands.

In a press release sent on Wednesday evening, the town hall of Lille assured that “out of 79 schools, 12 will have no reception in the morning, 17 no reception at noon and 15 no reception in the evening”. For the CFDT, the majority in these areas, “the very followed mobilization had much more impact”. Unfortunate for a back-to-school day, except that the notice, filed by the union a week earlier, gave everyone time to get organized.

“The town hall is not used to us going all the way”

According to Halima Matoug-Djarour, secretary general of the CFDT Lille-Lomme-Hellemmes section, “the town hall is not used to us going all the way because each time, we get satisfaction”. Not this time. In addition to the uninsured reception of children, thousands of canteen meals have not been served. According to our information, which however has not been confirmed by the city, the food was thrown away.

On the CFDT side, the claims are neither implausible nor ruinous. Taking into account the cleaning time before the arrival of the children in the morning in the crèches, recruitment in the school canteens and regularization of the situation of three ATSEM. Staff representatives were received this Thursday morning at the town hall. “We are awaiting written confirmation of the promises made to us. If nothing happens before tonight, the strike will be renewed on Friday,” assures Halima Matoug-Djarour. The town hall deplores this strike when “significant progress for the agents of these sectors has taken place”.
