These are the moments that annoy her: when you ask her where she’s from, where she’s “really” from. When she gets confused because “to 50-year-old Christian,” as she puts it, all women with brown skin look the same. Or when you address them in English because you can’t imagine that someone like them could be German. Even worse: if you have spoken to her in German before and still start in English the next time.
