Desperately looking for Omora. At the end of last November, Hayden, a young itinerant shepherd of 29 years old, was passing through Paris during a connection between two trains to return to Gironde. He was accompanied by Omora, a 4-year-old border collie, his faithful companion and main work tool. In a few minutes, while the young man had gone to buy food in a convenience store, his dog was stolen. Three months later, the animal remains untraceable, even though the thief was found and convicted.
On Tuesday, the Paris criminal court sentenced a Romanian, homeless and in an irregular situation, to four months in prison “without modification of the sentence” for stealing Hayden’s dog. The man was confused and identified by video surveillance images in which he is seen taking Omora, according to lawyer Olivia Symniacos, lawyer for the civil party. The defendant was not present at the hearing, having been released after police custody during which he denied the facts, claiming that the dog belonged to no one. He had also not provided any information allowing the animal to be found. In addition to the prison sentence, the defendant was ordered to compensate Hayden to the tune of “more than 3,000 euros”, according to the lawyer.
The culprit “will never pay a kopeck”
“This time, the magistrates took ”the dog’s case” seriously,” says Master Symniacos, deploring nevertheless that the culprit “will never pay a kopeck”, and this, “despite the wads of notes that he shows off on social networks. The police also have the task of getting their hands on him and taking him to prison.
If the sentence is exemplary in this type of case, Hayden is no further ahead. “For this young man, a shepherd, this dog was not only his “little friend” but also his teammate, without whom he can no longer practice his profession,” recalls Master Symniacos. For this, all that remains is citizen mobilization. An Instagram page « Let’s find Omora » was created to collect all the information that could help locate the animal.
