The second day of testing in Bahrain live!

8:52 a.m

New best time

Meanwhile, Leclerc is slightly improving: 1:31.750 now for the front runner – on C3 tires, by the way. This was also the preferred mixture for fast laps yesterday, which is why the times are comparable at least in this respect.

As a reminder: Theoretically, all mixtures (C1 to C5) can be used in the test. However, most teams forego the softest variants because only compounds C1 to C3 will be used at the Grand Prix next week.

Problem with Aston Martin?

Because Perez was just out and about again, even if only for two laps, he has now pushed Alonso to last place in the lap table. The Aston Martin has only completed four laps and has been in the pits for some time.

A problem? At least we’ll keep an eye on it. By the way, Sargeant is at the top of the lap table with 15 laps. No wonder, Williams has to make up kilometers after yesterday!

8:41 a.m

Perez is driving again

All-clear from Red Bull: Perez is driving again, so the problem didn’t cost too much time. But let’s wait and see whether the RB20 can do more than three laps this time. But it looks pretty good.

8:34 a.m

temperatures

In this context, a quick look at the temperatures: It is currently 22 degrees and the asphalt is 32 degrees. At midday the track temperature will climb towards 40 degrees, which is why there are usually no fast times.

We therefore expect the fastest times again in the evening: then it cools down again, which enables even faster laps.

8:30 a.m

times

Of course, they are not meaningful at all, especially at the beginning of the day. Leclerc is currently leading with a 1:31.822, but that will get much faster. We expect the fastest laps again in the evening.

Here are a few times for comparison:

Best time yesterday:
1:31.344 (Max Verstappen)

Best test time 2023:
1:30.305 (Sergio Perez)

Pole time 2023:
1:29.708 (Max Verstappen)

8:25 a.m

Safety car test

A little bit of information: The morning session officially ends today not at 12:00 p.m., but at 12:10 p.m. The reason for the small “addition” is a safety car test that will take place at midday from 11:55 a.m.

This test serves the teams, but above all the FIA itself, which of course also has to properly check its systems and processes before the start of the season.

8:19 a.m

Problem at Red Bull

Not a good start this time for the bulls: the RB20 is back in the pits after just three laps. Apparently there was a problem with the brakes at the front and there was even a small fire in this area.

Let’s see how quickly you can fix this problem. But at least it shows that this isn’t a sure-fire success for Red Bull either.

8:13 a.m

Speaking of measuring grids…

Large measuring grids are not only attached to the Tsunoda car, which is now in use. Other teams are also equipped with these “aero rakes” at the beginning of the session. But how do they actually work?

We explain it all to you in this article!

8:05 a.m

(Almost) all cars drive

The session is running. Alonso is the first driver on the track in the Aston Martin, and the other teams quickly follow suit. We have already seen nine cars, only the Racing Bulls are still waiting.

But there is no problem, we see large measuring grids on the VCARB 01. So it should start right away at Tsunoda.

07:58 am

Turbulence at Audi: Is the Formula 1 project shaky?

Before we get started on the track, let’s take a quick look at Sauber. As is well known, the team will become an Audi works team from 2026. But behind the scenes things are once again going pretty well for the people of Ingolstadt.

Christian Nimmervoll explains what exactly is going on here!

07:50 am

Haas: Still question marks when it comes to tire removal

The VF-24 was the slowest car yesterday. That doesn’t mean anything, but unfortunately it wasn’t a surprise. But does it at least appear that the team has gotten its tire wear problems under control?

Even after half a day in the car, Nico Hülkenberg still doesn’t have the confidence to make an assessment. Because the problems occurred in 2023 especially when you drove several cars in traffic.

“That’s something you can’t really simulate here,” he emphasizes, explaining that we still have to wait and see. Of course the problem solves itself if you don’t drive in traffic but at the back of the field…

07:35am

The biggest departure…

…had Sargeant at Williams yesterday. You can watch it again in the video here. But: We got through the entire first day of testing without a red flag, which is not a given.

The team with the biggest problems was Williams. In addition to the Sargeant departure, Albon already had a problem with the fuel pump in the morning, and in the afternoon a problem with the drive shaft slowed down the FW46.

With only 61 laps, Williams was the only team to stay under the 100 lap mark. You can read everything in our test center!
