The sale of cannabis in the Christiania district is experiencing its final hours

Danish authorities to close “Pusher Street”, the main artery of the Christiania district and a hub for cannabis trafficking, the Minister of Justice announced this Tuesday. “Pusher Street will close this year,” Peter Hummelgaard told local TV2 Kosmopol.

In the center of Copenhagen, Christiania, a former hippie paradise, has become famous for its sale of cannabis, illegal but long tolerated, which has led to abuses with drug trafficking and the appearance of gangs. In August, a thirty-year-old man linked to organized crime was shot dead in the street.

This fourth shooting linked to drug trafficking since 2020 around Pusher Street led residents to call on the authorities for help to close this market. An action plan, carried out with local residents, is being put in place and should be effective “over the next six months”, added the minister.
