The sale and consumption of alcohol will be prohibited (except for VIPs)

The aperitif will be belt and suspenders during the 2024 Olympics. According to information from the Parisian published on Monday, the Organizing Committee of the Olympic Games (Cojo) has decided not to authorize the consumption of alcoholic beverages on all sites and competitions, in accordance with the Evin law of January 12, 1991.

“The sale and distribution of group drinks are prohibited in stadiums, physical education halls, gymnasiums and, in general, in all physical and sports activity establishments, indicates the article 49-1-2″, specifying however that “the prefect may, under conditions fixed by decree, grant temporary derogations from the provisions of the first paragraph for reasons related to sporting, agricultural or tourist events. »

VIPs pass through the drops

Forget therefore the small pint to attend the exploits of the athletes, as was the case during the 2012 Olympic Games in London or the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio, for comparison. To be entitled to his little guilty pleasure, he will have to spend candy. Indeed, as is already the case in football stadiums, where alcohol is prohibited most of the time, only VIPs will be entitled to an exemption to sip plenty. The online hospitality offers on the official website of the Paris 2024 Olympics offer, for example, a menu “including champagne on the arrival of guests and bar service with wines, beers”.

Conversely, the organizers of the 2023 Rugby World Cup would like to opt for a different policy, based on the Public Health Code which allows the mayors of France to authorize by decree the sale and consumption of alcohol at sporting events, up to ten times a year and for a maximum of 48 hours. “We cannot imagine a Rugby World Cup without beer in the stadiums”, explained Jacques Rivoal, the president of the organizing committee of the World Cup, last May.
