As of: May 20, 2024 7:18 p.m

After some heavy thunderstorms and heavy rain at Pentecost, it will be sunnier and dry again in the north – at least temporarily. The next storms are possible from Wednesday.

For Monday evening, the German Weather Service (DWD) had once again warned of local thunderstorms in Lower Saxony, and in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania there was a warning of severe storms with heavy rain and hail. According to the DWD, the showers and thunderstorms should subside on Tuesday night.

Up to 27 degrees on Tuesday

On Tuesday, sun and clouds will alternate, but it will mostly stay dry. In Lower Saxony, meteorologists expect temperatures of up to 27 degrees and up to 22 degrees towards the coast. On the Baltic Sea coast in Schleswig-Holstein and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania it remains cooler at 15 to 22 degrees. Up to 21 degrees are expected in Flensburg and 25 degrees in Hamburg and Lauenburg. There will be a moderate to fresh wind that will increase as the day progresses.

New showers and thunderstorms from Wednesday

Wednesday is also expected to get off to a friendly start before clouds move in in the afternoon. Then, according to the DWD, heavy showers and thunderstorms with heavy rain are possible again. Only on the Baltic Sea can the sun shine for a long time. Temperatures are expected to range between 15 degrees on the coast and up to 25 degrees inland.

Changeable Pentecost weather

The weather on the Whitsun weekend was changeable: On Whitsunday, the German Weather Service (DWD) warned of severe thunderstorms in Lower Saxony and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. On Whit Monday there was not only some sun but also dense clouds and some thundery showers, especially from midday onwards. It was friendliest towards the coast: on the North Sea, on the Baltic Sea coast and in the north of Schleswig-Holstein it often remained clear and mostly dry with up to 20 degrees in Anklam and Meppen, 21 degrees in Waren/Müritz and Bad Segeberg, 23 degrees in Wolfsburg and Pellworm as well as 16 to 19 degrees on the Baltic Sea and on the East Frisian Islands.
