The rotten summer weather has somewhat cooled the professionals

Heat wave ? What heatwave? Far from the summer torpor that has crushed a large southern half of France, Brittany has again acted as a climatic refuge in recent days with temperatures that are bearable to say the least. Although shy, the sun was even there. A small event in short, because the latter has been very discreet all this summer in the region. We can even speak of a rotten weather as the month of July and the beginning of August were wet and cool in Brittany.

This did not prevent the region from filling up with tourists as expected. But the capricious weather still played on the morale of professionals who surely thought they were reliving the same exceptional summer as in 2022. did not live up to expectations”, according to an initial report drawn up by Tourisme Bretagne. Over the period from April 1 to August 20, 76% of them still consider themselves satisfied with the season.

However, this figure hides strong disparities between professions. Very dependent on the weather and penalized by the drop in purchasing power, restaurateurs are thus pulling the punch with only 66% of professionals satisfied against 81% in 2022. Ditto among boating professionals and to a lesser degree in campsites or hotels, with some customers having shortened their stays. Conversely, castles and museums were full with 90% of satisfied owners. After a decline in recent years, foreign customers are also back in the region with an increase of 9%. It is now the Germans who are the first foreign visitors to Brittany ahead of the British, the Dutch and the Belgians.

If the start of the school year is approaching, the tourist season is not over in Brittany. Professionals are even looking towards the off-season with optimism, with levels of camping reservations 51% ahead of the last week of August and 11% in September.
