The standoff continues between the SNCF and some of the railway unions. The obligatory annual negotiations (NAO) have partially failed. If the CFDT-Cheminots and the Unsa-Ferroviaire announced that they were signing this agreement, it was nevertheless rejected by Sud-Rail and the CGT-Cheminots, who had until Wednesday evening to approve it. .
These two unions represent 57.33% of the votes at SNCF. Their refusal to align with the railway group’s proposal could therefore lead to strikes during the Christmas holidays. On Wednesday, the CGT recorded its refusal in an open letter. The general secretary of the CGT-cheminots, Thierry Nier, believes that the proposal from the management of the SNCF “endorses a further decline in the purchasing power of railway workers”.
A proposal for a 1.8% general increase
For its part, Sud-Rail organized a consultation of its members who rejected the agreement “by a very clear majority”, announced the union in a press release. “We are not stopping ourselves from anything when it comes to mobilization! », Warned Sud-Rail. The railway group had proposed a salary increase of 4.6% on average over the year 2024, including a 1.8% general increase.
The company is also committed to increasing low salaries so that none of them is lower than 1.1 SMIC. A value sharing bonus of 400 euros must also be paid to the group’s more than 140,000 railway workers. Without a majority, SNCF did not ensure that the agreement would be applied in its entirety. Last year, only the CFDT-Cheminots signed the agreement on 2023 salaries. Despite the lack of a majority, the SNCF applied the planned measures.
