The retired ex-police officer indicted for “attempted homicides”

The man arrested on the night of Monday to Tuesday after having fired a rifle at gendarmes, causing three minor injuries, while he was holed up at his home in Blessy (Pas-de-Calais), was indicted and incarcerated, the Béthune prosecutor’s office announced on Thursday.

This 38-year-old man was indicted for “attempted homicides against persons holding public authority” and “destruction of property intended for public utility or decoration,” the prosecution said in a press release.

A judicial investigation was opened and the accused was placed in pre-trial detention by the judge of freedoms and detention, he added.

“Sometimes suicidal, sometimes threatening”

This former police officer took refuge in his home on the night of December 24 to 25 “after having committed damage there”, making comments “sometimes suicidal, sometimes threatening”, the prosecution indicated.

During their intervention, the gendarmes came under fire “several times” and three of them were slightly injured, which led to the intervention of the GIGN. The man, alcoholic (0.68 mg/L of exhaled air), finally surrendered “shortly after 2 a.m.”.
