Nothing against the film, nothing against the ingenious Greta Gerwig, certainly nothing against the doll, she shall live forever! But “Barbie” isn’t the first film about her at all, there’s also “Superstar: The Karen Carpenter Story”, a work that was shown at the Munich Film Festival, among other things, but today only exists underground, i.e. on Youtube: picture and sound devastating, but with (not always reliable) Portuguese subtitles, an early masterpiece by Todd Haynes that as far as possible nobody should get to see.
