Every theater people’s nightmare: the audience protests so violently against a bad performance that it has to be abandoned. In the comedy “The Robbery of the Sabines”, however, this super meltdown of stage art only occurs towards the end. In the Academy Theater, which belongs to the Burgtheater in Vienna, the performance falls on the same day as the catastrophe. “It’s over!” lament the actresses and actors who have just suffered the worst bankruptcy of their careers. “It’s all over!” But of course the comedy really starts now and we learn how the disaster happened.
