The price of the TCL subscription will increase by 3 euros, the 70 euro mark exceeded

“We are forced to revise upwards the prices of certain tickets and subscriptions.” In a press release, Sytral, which manages public transport in Lyon, announced that the prices of classic subscriptions would increase from January 1. Plus 3.20 euros for “City Pass” packages which will now increase to 72.40 euros. The decision must be ratified Thursday during the board of directors.

Subscriptions reserved for seniors will increase by 1.60 euros to reach 36.70 euros. As for large families, they will have to pay 50.80 euros, compared to 48.50 euros.

“The year 2023 was marked by a still very high inflationary context (5.8% annual average). These developments lead to additional operating costs for the networks”, explains Bruno Bernard, the president of Sytral, specifying that the “TCL network should be impacted by more than 10 million euros in 2023”, due to “a sharp increase in cost of energy.

A call to the government

The price of the single ticket (2 euros) will not change, just like solidarity subscriptions (free), subscriptions intended for children aged 4 to 10 (10 euros) and those aimed at 18-25 year olds. (25 euros). On the other hand, books of 10 tickets will increase by 50 cents, they will now cost 19.50 euros.

Furthermore, Bruno Bernard appeals to the government. “Mobility organizing authorities need new funding to continue the development of their networks,” he argues, recalling that “numerous transpartisan proposals, supported by all major French cities, have been made to the government” such as the removal of the cap on the Mobility Payment (VM) or the reduction in VAT on public transport. However, “only the Paris region had the opportunity to have new revenues,” he notes.
