The little-known story of “A ray of hope”
We know the story of Anne Frank and her family, this miniseries tells the true and little-known story of the one who tried to save them. A glimmer of hopeavailable May 2 on Disney+, retraces the journey of Miep Gies (Bel Powley, seen in The Morning Show), a carefree and strong-willed young secretary who didn’t hesitate for a moment when her boss, Otto Frank (Liev Schreiber, seen in Ray Donovan), asked him to hide his family during World War II in Amsterdam. For two years, Miep, her husband, Jan (Joe Cole, seen in Peaky Blinders), as brave as he is dedicated, and other ordinary heroes, watched over the Frank, van Pels and Pfeffer families, refugees in a secret annex of Otto’s company, Opekta. After their arrest, Miep found Anne Frank’s diary and kept it for publication, in agreement with the girl’s father, to serve as a testament for future generations.
The six women at the top of the “Randonneuses”
This is the new drama created by Fanny Riedberger to whom we owe Toulouse-Lautrec high school. The Hikers, a miniseries to be discovered on May 15 at 9:10 p.m. on TF1, follows six women with cancer or in remission who take up the challenge of going on a hike to attack the Dôme de la Lauze, at nearly 4,000 meters above sea level. A portrait as funny as it is touching of six women at the top, embodied by a cast that commands respect, including Alix Poisson, Clémentine Célarié and Camille Chamoux.
The crazy life of an ex-drug addict in “High Desert”
After Severance, Escape at Dannemora And Flirting with Disaster, Patricia Arquette collaborates again with Ben Stiller! in the comedy High Desert, the first three episodes of which will be released on May 17 on Apple TV+, the American actress and producer of the series plays Peggy, a drug addict who decides to make a new start after the death of her beloved mother with who she lived in the small desert town of Yucca Valley, California and to become a private detective. At his side, a five-star cast: Matt Dillon (Wayward Pines) will play Denny, Peggy’s ex on parole, Brad Garret (Fargo), a private detective who hires Peggy reluctantly, or even Rupert Friend (Homeland), a kind of guru in the desert, Bernadette Peters (Mozart in the Jungle, The Good Fight), Peggy’s mother, and finally Christine Taylor (Search Party), his sister.
The dual identity of “Chinese Americans”
Adapted from the graphic novel by Gene Luen Yang, American Born Chineseaction comedy Americans from China, available on Disney+ on May 24, follows the daily life of Jin Wang (Ben Wang), a teenager torn between his identity as a young American in a predominantly Caucasian city, and the heritage of his Chinese ancestors. When he meets a new foreign student on the first day of school, the shock of cultures is immense: Jin will involuntarily be involved in a battle between Chinese gods! Michelle Yeoh and Ke Huy Quan, winners at the Oscars, are notably in the cast of this series at the crossroads of genres.
