The point after the discovery of a body which could be that of the baker

Since March 16, a couple of bakers from Beaumont-de-Lomagne, in Occitania, have been missing on the island of Madeira, in Portugal. On vacation with one of their daughters, Véronique and Laurent Blond went for a hike and did not return. After weeks of fruitless searches, the body of a woman, who could be that of the baker, was found Thursday evening. 20 minutes takes stock of this matter.

A body discovered by a walker

It was near Fajã da Areia, a viewpoint located along regional road 101, that a walker discovered the body of a woman on Thursday in Sao Vincente, on the Portuguese island of Madeira. According to the local newspaper Madeira News Diary, it is not possible to formally identify the body but it would correspond to the description, in terms of clothing, of Véronique Blond. The Portuguese authorities have therefore not yet been able to officially confirm his identity.

A difficult to access area

The body was found in the north of the island, not far from the villa rented by the Blond family, precise La Dépêche du Midi. It is a steep area, difficult to access and the search teams were mobilized when it was already dark, underlines the Madeira News Diary. The body must be removed this Friday morning and analyzes can then be carried out to establish its identity.

Research continues

The search resumed this Friday morning, to try to find the husband, Laurent Blond. Significant resources have been put in place. Sixteen rescuers, volunteer firefighters, police officers accompanied by dogs and three mountain rescue vehicles were mobilized, even though the couple had been missing for almost three weeks.
