The opera world is crazy about director Tobias scratch. Why? – Bavaria

In the fall, Tobias scratch opens the new season of the Bavarian State Opera with Richard Wagner’s “Rheingold”; the new “Ring” belongs to him. Scratcher knew what he wanted to be at the age of twelve: a director. The parents are scientists who offered their children everything from athletics to chemistry sets to going to the opera, he says. He was born in Landshut in 1980 and grew up in the Munich area. What is legendary is how Schock won the international directing competition “Ring.Award” in Graz in 2008 – and won all the prizes to be awarded. He, who is usually seen in everyday life wearing a baseball cap, competed against himself in changing disguises and with two pseudonyms. Commissions followed across Europe, and Katharina Wagner brought him to the Green Hill in 2019. Scratcher’s “Tannhäuser” will be revived there this summer. You can also meet him in Bayreuth for this conversation. In Wagner’s Villa Wahnfried. That’s fitting, the composer has accompanied him all his life.
