The number of hospitalized patients drops below 25,000

The number of hospitalized Covid-19 patients continues to drop in French hospitals. According to the figures of
Public health France, this figure fell for the first time since mid-March under the bar of 25,000 patients.

More exactly, 24,254 people diagnosed with coronavirus are currently hospitalized in France, including 965 admitted in the last 24 hours, against 25,028 the day before.

160 fewer people in critical care services

The decline in critical care services (which combine resuscitation, intensive care and continuous monitoring), almost interrupted from the high point of 6,001 patients reached on April 26, also continued. On Wednesday, 4,583 people were admitted to these services, which take care of the most seriously ill patients, against 4,743 the day before.

The number of patients in intensive care units has thus fallen “below our maximum theoretical capacities”, assured government spokesman Gabriel Attal at a press conference after the Council of Ministers.

185 people died in 24 hours

Regarding deaths, 185 people have died from Covid-19 in hospital in the last 24 hours, bringing the total to 107,148 since the start of the epidemic (including 80,841 in hospital).

21,498 new contaminations were also identified, against 19,791 Tuesday and 26,000 last Wednesday. The positivity rate (number of positive tests out of the total tests performed) remained stable at 5.4% after several days of sharp decline, since it still stood at 10% at the end of April.

636,336 vaccinations in 24 hours

Finally, in terms of vaccination, 636,336 injections have been carried out in the last 24 hours, according to the Ministry of Health. A very sustained level, while new professionals such as physiotherapists, paramedics and civil security volunteers have been authorized to vaccinate since Wednesday.

Since the start of the vaccination campaign in France, 18,911,865 people have received at least one injection and 8,473,471 people have received two injections (i.e. 12.6% of the total population and 16.1% of the adult population) .
