The Nice supporter suspected of having kicked Payet will be tried at the end of September

Tony C, supporter of OGC Nice, suspected of having kicked OM player Dimitri Payet during the meeting between the two teams on Sunday evening, was placed under judicial supervision until his judgment, next September 22.

This Wednesday, he appeared before the Nice Criminal Court which decided to leave him free, with a match and stadium ban and an obligation to check in twice a week at the Mandelieu-la-Napoule gendarmerie, where he resides .

“I will regret this gesture all my life”

During the hearing, the 28-year-old man said he did not recognize himself by making this gesture and said “regret it all his life”. “Basically, he will have time to explain it,” said his lawyer, Me Benjamin Taieb. He also returned to “the surge of violence” against his client and his partner via the networks. An hour after the match, his address and identity were shared on the Internet. “He shaved his beard because he was afraid of being recognized and targeted,” added Mr. Benjamin Taieb.

The prosecutor Léopold Mendes had notably requested pre-trial detention to “protect the accused person since he is in danger outside”. He also pointed to the fear of a “renewal of the offense” based on the sole judicial record of this supporter of OGC Nice for “more than twenty years”, a fine of 430 euros for contempt and rebellion during a meeting in Montpellier in 2019.

Next month, the native of Nice risks a maximum of one year of imprisonment for “unlawful intrusion on the playing area disturbing the sporting event” and two years for “willful violence in a meeting”.
