The 31-year-old Italian rider has been hospitalized in Spain since Monday due to cardiorespiratory arrest after the finish of the first stage of the Tour of Catalonia. “All cardiac tests carried out last night showed no worrying signs or compromised functions,” said the Bahrain Victorious team, in which the European champion plays.
The latter had been urgently admitted to the University Hospital of Girona after being treated initially at the finish line of the race in Sant Feliu de Guixols. “Sonny Colbrelli has since been in touch with family and friends as he recovers in hospital. He will undergo further tests today to find out the cause of yesterday’s incident,” the Bahrain Victorious team added.
The winner of the last Paris-Roubaix resumed competition after a two-week stoppage due to bronchitis. He had taken second place in the first stage of the Tour of Catalonia in an uphill sprint won by Australian Michael Matthews, before his illness.
