The new variant of the Coronavirus finally has a name. It should no longer be called “the B.1.1.529 variant” and even less “the South African variant” (place where the latter was identified by virologists), but Omicron variant. This is the name that the WHO chose this Friday to designate this variant. “This variant has a large number of mutations, some of which are worrying,” said the group of experts tasked by the World Health Organization with monitoring the evolution of Covid-19.
