Leader of the Argentinian celebrations in the locker room, goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez called for a minute’s silence for Kylian Mbappé after the World Cup final won by the Albiceleste at the expense of France (3-3, 4 tab to 2 ).
The winner has all the rights, it seems. The Argentines having long been masters in the art of chambering and provocation, the triple world champions had a great time in the locker room after the victory against France, Sunday in the final of the World Cup . Emiliano Martinez, the other hero of Argentina after Lionel Messi, certainly talented but willingly exuberant, made fun of Kylian Mbappé, author of a masterful performance.
The French striker almost shattered the Argentinian dream by passing three goals to the Argentinian goalkeeper, including a splendid volley (not counting the penalty shootout which saw the French player succeed on his first attempt), but he was still taunted by the opposing team.
A special celebration on the podium
Lionel Scaloni’s players danced and sang, stopping at regular intervals on the orders of their goalkeeper, who notably called for a minute’s silence “for Mbappé who is dead”. A completely different player had however hastened to greet, with restraint, the Paris Saint-Germain striker, at the final whistle.
But in the (very relative) secrecy of the locker room, lulled by the euphoria of a world title, “Dibu” Martinez felt his wings grow. And the elegance has suddenly disappeared in favor of a certain indecency which he is accustomed to, as evidenced by his passage on the stage, after the presentation of the trophy for best goalkeeper of the competition.
As a reminder, Emiliano Martinez had little taste for the comments made by Kylian Mbappé last May, the Parisian striker believing at the time that Argentina did not meet enough good teams in its geographical area. “He doesn’t know enough about football,” replied the goalkeeper before the final.
