Jean-François Pactet, French ambassador to Sri Lanka and the Maldives, has died

French diplomacy is in mourning. Jean-François Pactet, ambassador to Sri Lanka and the Maldives, has died, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Sunday, saluting the memory of a “talented diplomat” and “appreciated by all”.

Aged 53, Jean-François Pactet has been stationed in Sri Lanka since 2022, and had previously been in charge of managing the French cultural and educational network abroad.

Sri Lanka expresses its “sincere condolences”

He had also been in charge of human development issues, and in particular health, food security, and equality between women and men at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, his biography states.

The Quai d’Orsay expresses its “great sadness”, without specifying the causes of death. In a statement, Sri Lankan diplomacy expressed its “sincere condolences”.
