The Minister of Transport will not stop the disputed project

There will be no questioning of I’A69 motorway, between Toulouse and Castres. This is the message sent this Tuesday by Clement Beaune, the Minister Delegate for Transport, this Tuesday during the session of questions to the government of the National Assembly. Last week, the day after the mobilization of thousands of opponents in Saïx (Tarn), he had nevertheless hinted at the microphone of France Info that this road project, born thirty years ago, was one of those that could be re-examined. This hypothesis had triggered the ire of local elected officials from Tarn, fervent defenders of the opening up of the Castres-Mazamet basin by the motorway. They now seem to have rallied the minister to their arguments.

Reflection on “not committed” projects

The A69 motorway project “has been the subject of contractual commitments”, all appeals have been rejected and it is supported by most local elected officials, recalled Clément Beaune on Tuesday. “Work on this project is about to begin. It is therefore no longer quite a project but a start of implementation”, he added, indicating however that he would soon meet the Atosca dealer to “see if there are some additional improvements” to be made, especially on the environmental side.

The review of projects announced on April 24 will in fact relate to “a certain number of projects which are not committed”, he specified, probably dampening the hopes of the collectives of opponents of the A69.
