It has undoubtedly become in a few days the most famous window in France … A small window overlooking a garbage room in Evry (Essonne) has become the scene of an unusual football challenge on social networks. In recent weeks, football fans have gathered in front of 24, rue Jules-Vallès, in Évry, to try to meet this challenge.

The principle of this challenge, which is nicknamed “the magic skylight of Evry”, is simple: to send the ball into the narrow opening of the window, like a football player who would seek the skylight during a free kick. . A difficult exercise which requires technique, but also and above all success.

Millions of views on social networks

It all started with a video of the man nicknamed “Gay Old Man” in the neighborhood. On December 6, 2019, the man, in his thirties, succeeds the feat of getting the ball into the frame the first time. In recent weeks, “some locals wanted to try their luck while Gay was around. He began to distill his advice to each other to succeed in their shooting. Some filmed it and it started again suddenly ”, explained a resident of the neighborhood.

In turn, the neighborhood football fans wanted to try their luck, filming their exploits which they then posted on Twitter, Instagram or Snapchat, giving the skylight the popularity it arouses today. Images posted on social media quickly went viral. The video of “Gigi”, “the first woman to have scored”, was seen this week more than 2 million times and shared by hundreds of Internet users in a few hours.

Nothing predestined this skylight of a garbage room to become the star of social networks. “I’m happy and proud, it gives a different image of the neighborhood. I haven’t saved any lives, I haven’t done anything extraordinary. I just put the ball in a hole, that’s right, the first time. The enthusiasm that it took, it’s nice, ”said“ Gay the Elder ”in an interview with Brut.
