Even the end of work on the legendary Sagrada Familia basilica, made famous precisely for its unfinished side (and also because it is not too architecturally disgusting, we’re not going to lie). After a wait of more than 140 years, five central towers are finally completed, reports CNN. Mathieu’s tower was sealed off this Monday. More than a central tower, the end of which is scheduled for 2026, and the monument, begun in 1882, will be completed – yes we know, it’s a shock.
As a reminder and to shine in society at social dinners, the architect Gaudi had decided to build 18 immense towers, including six particularly massive ones, each representing a biblical figure among the All-Star of the Bible: the 12 apostles, the four evangelists , the Virgin Mary and Jesus. When he died in 1926, only 10 to 15 percent of the project had been built. Construction further slowed down by the Spanish Civil War in the 1930s.
But while waiting for 2026 and the total completion, the four evangelical towers are therefore finished. Which is well worth an inauguration, which will take place on November 12, with even the four towers illuminated.
