What an amazing movie Gravity by Cédric Ido who mixes social chronicle, suspense and science fiction in a suburban city! After The good life, the director once again delivers a fascinating work around the clash of two generations of gangs against a background of alignment of planets which suddenly makes the sky of their city glow. A mix of genres that is not without evoking Gagarin by Fanny Liatard and Jérémy Trouilh, very noticed in 2021.
Max GoomisSteve Tientcheu and Jean-Baptiste Anoumon are particularly remarkable as an old-timer of their city suddenly undermined by a band of very young kids determined to take power without giving them the slightest gift. Gravity is what pulls all of the film’s heroes down: the social system that brings them down.
A hopeless struggle
“I chose to focus on the lower social classes, these individuals trapped in this gravity, because I know them well,” explains the director in the press kit. The violence that opposes the thirty-somethings to the kids goes crescendo while the spectator, his throat tight and his mouth dry, counts the points between the two camps. Older delinquents seek to survive in the face of nihilistic teenagers who refuse the system favored by their elders in which the future is definitively blocked for them.
Bathed in a bewitching score co-signed by Evgueni and Sacha Galperine, Gravity offers its share of effective action scenes while painting portraits of young men stuck in a world that leaves them no hope.
