The last witnesses: Archaeologists dig in Munich’s Nazi era – Munich

Archaeologists are often deeply touched by what they discover. The archaeological finds bring new knowledge about perpetrators and victims.

In the beginning there was the “Brown House” – more precisely: what was left of the former party headquarters of the NDSAP after the war started by the Nazis. Archaeologists uncovered and examined the remains in 2007 and 2008. The foundation walls of the place of horror had to give way – today the Munich NS Documentation Center is located here. But Jochen Haberstroh from the Bavarian State Office for the Preservation of Monuments still calls the scientific excavations a “milestone”. Since then, archaeologists have been studying the remains of the Nazi era in the Bavarian capital.
