The “king of beauty” will not appeal

There will be no new Faïd trial. The repeat robber, sentenced at the end of October to fourteen years in prison for his escape from Réau prison (Seine-et-Marne) in 2018, chose not to appeal his conviction.

Rédoine Faïd and eleven other defendants appeared for nearly two months before the Paris Assize Court for his spectacular escape by helicopter from the Réau penitentiary center. Ten of his co-defendants were found guilty and received sentences ranging from one year in prison to ten years.

Corsican godfather Jacques Mariani appealed

Among them, “only Jacques Mariani appealed the decision of the Paris Assize Court,” indicated the Paris public prosecutor’s office, which in turn filed an appeal against the Corsican bandit. Jacques Mariani, already detained for other cases, was sentenced to two years in prison. He was found guilty of seeking to help the “king of beauty” with a previous escape project in 2017, which both men strongly denied. He will therefore be tried again for these facts.

Among the other accused, the two brothers of Rédoine Faïd, Brahim, 63, who was in the visiting room with him at the time of the escape, and Rachid, 65, who had taken a helicopter pilot hostage, were sentenced respectively to one year suspended prison sentence and ten years imprisonment.

Only Alima A. was acquitted, the court considering that she had accommodated the escapee under “moral duress”. With this new conviction, the end of the sentence of Rédoine Faïd, who was already serving convictions for a robbery in 2011 and a previous escape in 2013, should be extended to 2060.
