The hospital ordered to pay nearly three million euros after deliveries with complications

The hospital of Morlaix (Finistère) was heavily condemned by the administrative court of Rennes after two deliveries which had led to significant complications, as reported West France. In the first case, the establishment will have to pay nearly 655,000 euros to the mother of a child who was born severely disabled in 1997 and died in 2018.

The expert report then estimated that “the fault committed by the Morlaix hospital center has a direct causal link with the pathologies at the origin of the death”. The hospital will also have to compensate the Primary Health Insurance Fund (CPAM) up to around 200,000 euros.

Disabled for life after giving birth

The second case dates back to 2013. After giving birth, a woman became disabled after suffering a “very rare” injury, according to experts. She now receives a disability pension and has to use a wheelchair.

In this case, the Morlaix hospital will have to pay nearly 1.8 million euros to the patient. An annual pension of 23,000 euros will also have to be paid to him. The establishment will finally have to pay more than 220,000 euros to the CPAM of Finistère.
