“The Harmony Codex” by Steven Wilson: Yes, a genius – culture

Conceptualist, sound fetishist, author of bizarrely beautiful pop songs: A meeting with the English musician Steven Wilson on the occasion of his new solo LP “The Harmony Codex”.

Music streaming technology took a few years to take over from the iPod, which was unfortunately the dominant player until the turn of the decade in the 2010s. The musician and singer Steven Wilson did it in under 30 seconds. You can still watch it in six short videos. Wilson uploaded it to YouTube in spring 2009. His first solo album “Insurgentes” was about to be released, and the films were part of the guerrilla PR campaign. The Challenge: What’s the best way to destroy an iPod? In one of the videos, Wilson does it with a sledgehammer. In the next, he tries out a flamethrower. Then: hunting rifle. The attempt, in which he repeatedly drives a small car over the player, fails. Wilson has to finish off the device with kicks.
