Its price already made it one of the most expensive in France. But from May, the price of the gray card will increase further in Brittany. On the occasion of the vote on the 2023 budget, which will take place on Monday and Tuesday, the regional council will announce the increase in the regional tax, which partly determines the cost of the registration certificate, by four euros. The price of the tax horse, or horsepower, will thus increase from 51 to 55 euros. To register his vehicle, the Breton motorist will therefore have to pay an additional cost of 20 to 28 euros if his car has a power of between five and seven fiscal horsepower. But the note will of course be more painful for large cars.
Vice-president of the Brittany region in charge of finance, Stéphane Perrin-Sarzier justifies this increase by the need to balance the budget of the community. “Due to inflation and the increase in the index point of civil servants, our operating expenses will increase by 73 million euros this year, he explains. At the same time, our revenues will only increase by 60 million. »
End of the exemption granted to hybrid vehicles
In this context, the Brittany region has therefore resolved to increase the tax on registration cards, “the only tax lever we still have”, specifies the elected official. The measure, which will not delight motorists, should bring the region an additional revenue of 8 million euros out of an estimated total of 113 million. “But it is much less than before given the collapse of automotive transactions that we have been recording for several months”, assures Stéphane Perrin-Sarzier.
In addition to the increase of four euros per horsepower, the Brittany region will also end the 50% exemption granted since 1999 to hybrid vehicles. “It’s not a punishment but everyone must do their part,” said Loïg Chesnais-Girard, socialist president of the Brittany region.
