Bayer Leverkusen loses Europa League final

Bayer Leverkusen’s winning streak was broken against Atalanta Bergamo – in the final of the Europa League, of all places.

The German football champion Bayer Leverkusen lost the Europa League final and missed out on a possible treble. The Rhinelanders lost 0-3 (0-2) to Italian club Atalanta Bergamo in Dublin on Wednesday, suffering their first defeat in their 52nd competitive match of the season. Bayer thus missed out on their second international title after winning the UEFA Cup in 1988. On Saturday, Bayer still has a chance to secure the double in the DFB Cup final against second division side 1. FC Kaiserslautern.

Hat trick against Bayer Leverkusen

The outstanding man was former Leipzig player Ademola Lookman, who scored all three goals for Atalanta (12th, 26th and 75th minutes). It is the first international trophy for Bergamo, who eliminated Liverpool FC under coach Jürgen Klopp on the way to the final.

More on this soon.
