The government wants to vaccinate newborns? Watch out for the mounts

“With my two vaccines grandpa and grandma will be near the tree. On a poster, this sentence illustrated with a baby under one year old shocks on social networks. This is a campaign to promote vaccination against influenza and Covid-19.

“Simplify your life: perform your two injections at the same time”, is it written. The logos of the government and the Provence Alpes Regional Health Agency appear at the bottom of the image.

“These posters are criminal, leave your children out of your bullshit”, exclaims a user. “With the Covid mortality rate after vaccination, isn’t that shameful? “, reacts another. But is it a real poster? 20 minutes tells you everything.

FAKE OFF

It is actually a montage. By an image search, we quickly realize that this image does not exist on any official site, but only on blogs and Twitter pages. A similar poster, also declined in flyer, is however present on the website of the Regional Health Agency of the Provence Alpes region. “With my two vaccines, I fear dégun”, is it written.

But the illustration has been modified between the official poster and the hijacked one. The photo of a baby thus replaces that of an elderly person in the montage. Note that the illustration of the baby is available on the Internet in PNG, Portable Network Graphics version, which allows use on montages, as is the case here.

The poster is dated November 2021, and was intended to promote vaccination against influenza and against Covid-19 among the elderly, namely those who are most at risk of complications from these two diseases. The ARS website mentions: “The flu is a very contagious disease which can be serious, especially in fragile people. Implied here: the elderly.

The same is true for covid where among the people most exposed to the risk of a serious form of Covid-19, are cited in particular “residents of Ehpad, USLD and autonomy residences, all people aged 65 and over”.

What does the government really say about vaccinating babies?

In France, the government website specifies that only “children aged 5 to 11 can be vaccinated” against Covid-19, and this since December 22, 2021. This is a pediatric form of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine “which is three times less dosed than the adult form of the vaccine”. This injection is not mandatory.

With regard to influenza, vaccination is authorized from 6 months, and highly recommended for babies at risk. However, “infants under 6 months of age have a high risk of being hospitalized and an increased risk of dying from influenza”. To protect them, the injection is recommended for the entourage of this young person, if he presents serious risk factors for influenza: “premature babies, children with congenital heart disease, congenital immune deficiency, pulmonary, neurological or neuromuscular pathology or a long-term illness (ALD). »
