The State will be present “in the long term” to “repair” the damage from the floods in Pas-de-Calais, assured this Thursday, government spokesperson Olivier Véran. He took the opportunity to affirm that the commitments made by Emmanuel Macron during previous floods “were kept”.
“What needs to be repaired will be, what needs to be protected will be,” declared Olivier Véran on BFMTV and RMC, in reaction to the floods affecting the north of France and particularly Pas-de-Calais, two months later historic floods.
State support in “emergency” and “duration”
The Head of State visited this department in November, where “he made commitments [qui] were held”, in particular “a support fund of 50 million euros” underlined the spokesperson. The latter added that the recognition of the state of natural disaster for “all municipalities which request it” and that the agricultural disaster regime “for farmers who need it” have been implemented.
Emmanuel Macron “called [mercredi] several mayors” met in the fall “to reassure them once again that state support would be effective urgently and over the long term,” according to the government spokesperson, currently on site with the Minister of Transition ecological, Christophe Béchu.
“We don’t care about the world”
For his part, the president of the Hauts-de-France region, Xavier Bertrand, stepped up to the plate this Thursday on RMC. “The market gardeners of Saint-Omer are still waiting to be told about compensation,” he denounced, assuring that other farmers had been offered “a cash advance rather than aid”.
“We don’t care about the world,” he was indignant, demanding that ministers “come and settle down with weapons and baggage, not for a few hours but for a few days to resolve the problems.”
Comments that are “not very kind towards ministers who come into contact, on the ground in an emergency”, replied Olivier Véran, calling for “to be united in the face of what concerns climate problems”, especially that these disasters “are likely to be repeated” in the future.
