The French Navy seizes 150 million euros worth of cocaine in the Gulf of Guinea

A record seizure, one more for the French Navy. At the end of September, the French soldiers had already hit the jackpot by seizing six tons of cocaine on board a cargo ship off the coast of Guinea. They did it again on Wednesday by getting their hands on a shipment of 4.6 tons of cocaine, we learned this Friday from the Atlantic maritime prefecture. The drugs were discovered on board a Brazilian tug which was in the Gulf of Guinea and had been under close surveillance since its departure.

Wednesday at dawn, the amphibious helicopter carrier Thunder of the French Navy took action as part of this investigation, led by the maritime authorities and the public prosecutor of Brest. On board the tug, the French sailors discovered several bales containing cocaine. “This seizure represents some 4,607 kilograms of cocaine for an overall value of around 150 million euros,” welcomes the maritime prefecture of the Atlantic in a press release. The drugs seized were destroyed on board before the helicopter carrier returned to its base port in Toulon.
