The fire of a building in the historic center of Grasse kills three

In the Alpes-Maritimes, a tragedy has just occurred in the world capital of perfume. Three people died in the fire of a five-storey building in the historic center of the city of Grasse which occurred on Sunday morning but has now been extinguished, firefighters announced.

In addition to the three victims, whose identities have not been revealed, the emergency services counted one seriously injured and sixteen minor injuries. Captain Aymeric Soufflet clarified that among the injured, there were “possibly” people who would have thrown themselves out of the window in the hope of escaping the flames.

Firefighters called around 3 a.m.

“The Alpes-Maritimes departmental fire and rescue operational center received numerous calls in the middle of the night (around 3 a.m.) for a major release of smoke in a residential building in the center of Grasse”, have said firefighters.

Arrived on the spot, the emergency services found that a virulent fire was spreading in the stairwell of a five-storey building located on Place aux Aires, with several people appearing at the windows. The fire, whose origin and circumstances remain to be clarified, was then extinguished. The relocation of about twenty people will be necessary, said the firefighters. Seized, the judicial police installed a barnum in front of the building to make the first findings.
